Sevdah wins the SFF Audience Award
After opening the Sarajevo Film Festival documentary film competition and absolutely won over the hearts of the audience, Sevdah deservedly won the flattering Audience Award with a record-breaking rating of 4,9. This allowed it to beat many prestigious movie titles such as ‘Wrestler’ by Darren Aronofski and ‘Broken embraces’ by Pedro Almodovar. Sevdah has entered the history of SFF as the first European documentary to win this award.
No free seats on Sevdah screenings
There were no free seats to be found on both screenings of “Sevdah”, and people were standing on the stairs as well to see the film on Sarajevo FF projections. Unfortunately, Pozorište mladih and Dom armije were too tight to fit everybody interested in the film, so many missed their opportunity to attend a screening. Those who were lucky enough to enter added their laughter, tears and applause to the film projection and festivities. More information will soon be available on the film’s official website.

VARIETY / Alissa Simon
" Festivals and broadcasters should welcome this intimate celebration of Bosnian culture and traditions, which nabbed the audience award at the Sarajevo fest. "
BALKAN INSIGHT / Nidzara Ahmetasevic
"A good film can be a little slice of magic which takes you away to a special place where everything is just so. Such a film is Marina Andree’s documentary, Sevdah… With its positive energy and beautiful songs and pictures, the viewer can’t help but feel the love that is the enduring narrative of this movie.”
NOVI LIST / Vedrana Simičević
"... Sevdah has three essential things that a good, original documentary film should have – powerful atmosphere, a good story and the strength to invoke emotions without stooping to too much patheticism."
SLOBODNA DALMACIJA / Jure Jerić
"The two of them told their own stories sincerely and longingly, with a touch of melancholy, moving “Sevdah” away from a classic documentary format, introducing elements that will move the audience outside of the cultural limits of sevdah’s tradition."
SLOBODNA BOSNA / Adisa Bašić
“For Marina “Sevdah” is much more than a professional project: it is a private journey into the past, a quest for values in one’s own tradition and a homage to a dear friend, Farah, that passed away too soon.”
e-NOVINE / Vladan Petković
“It is hard to imagine sevdah being presented better any other way on film.”
